The Mu no Hado and Denjin Hadou: The Opposite of Murderous Intent
The Satsui no Hado is the dark side of Street Fighter, but it isn't the only end of the path. Opposite it stands another force — the "Mu no Hado" (the Power of Nothingness). And Ryu's entire story, stripped down, is a search for his own road between the two.
How the Power of Nothingness began
The Mu no Hado was born from one man: Gouken. Facing the Satsui no Hado, he neither coveted it nor fled it — he chose to resist it. Years of resistance didn't break him; instead, they awakened an opposite power within him.
Satsui is "full", aggressive, destructive. Mu is "empty", calm, protective. The two are two sides of one coin. Gouken survived Akuma's Raging Demon precisely because of this "nothingness".
Ryu's dilemma
Ryu's pain comes from this: the Satsui no Hado lurks inside him, yet his ideal is to follow his master's path of "Mu". He walks both roads halfway, stuck in between.
On one side, the Satsui no Hado keeps tempting him — it's so strong that a single nod would let him crush any opponent. On the other, he knows that surrendering to it means losing himself forever. So he trains, travels, and fights strong opponents, all to push himself to "use the Satsui without being devoured by it".
Mastering both: Ryu's answer
Ryu's ultimate goal is to master both the Satsui no Hado and the Mu no Hado, and face Akuma with "true martial art". It's hard, but he edges closer step by step. When he can finally command both forces, Ryu stops being "the strongest seeker" and becomes "a complete fighter".
Denjin Hadou: the peak of Mu
Push the Mu no Hado further, and it reaches a higher state — the "Denjin Hadou". It stands on a completely opposite path from the Satsui no Hado: where Satsui's end is a monster like "Shin Akuma", Mu's end is the "Denjin", a force of clarity and perfection.
The Satsui no Hado is one of Street Fighter's most fascinating ideas, and the Mu no Hado is its other half. Without "Mu", the Satsui is just uncontrolled violence; with "Mu", Ryu's struggle becomes truly moving. Light and shadow, together they underpin Street Fighter's entire power system.
