Berserk Leona: The Tragedy of the Moonlit Village

The Blood of Orochi 2026-08-16 about 4 min

Of the two carriers of Orochi's blood, Leona's fate is the more heartbreaking — she never even chose to be part of this.

Who is Leona

Leona Heidern is a member of KOF's Ikari Team (the squad with Ralf and Clark), skilled with a combat knife and close-quarters fighting, silent and decisive. But her true background is far more tangled than the word "mercenary" suggests.

Heir to the blood

Leona's biological father, Gaidel, is a member of the Hakkesshu. Orochi's blood passed to Leona through him — a bloodline that was destined, from the moment she was born, to become her lifelong nightmare.

The moonlit massacre

As a child, the blood awakened in Leona. On that blood-red moonlit night, the young girl rioted and lost her reason, cutting a swath through the village — her own family included, her parents among them. When Ralf and Clark arrived, all they found was a ruined village and a blood-soaked, injured Leona curled up in it.

They took her in, brought her into the military, and used harsh training to help her suppress the power inside. But that night of massacre became a wound she'd never speak of again.

The riot returns in '97

In KOF '97, with Orochi's will awakening, the blood inside Leona ignites once more. She riots mid-tournament, becoming "berserk Leona" — eyes red, moves like a beast tearing at prey, ferociously aggressive. She was the hidden character players dreamed of unlocking.

Thankfully, the calls of Ralf and Clark reached her, and Leona snapped out of the riot before a second tragedy could unfold.

The "festive" backdrop

One detail deserves special mention: the stage where berserk Leona appears has a cheerful festival backdrop and music, while Leona rampages wildly. The developers deliberately used the "happiest backdrop" to contrast with the "most savage riot", magnifying her tragedy — the celebration belongs to everyone else; the madness and loneliness belong to her alone.

Leona's story proves one thing: the blood of Orochi brings no glory. Only a curse.
